Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
